Statistics Dashboard Performance Optimization & Trend Indicators Fix
Overview
This release brings significant performance improvements to the Statistics Dashboard through query optimization and fixes the trend indicator display for negative value metrics.
Major Changes
1. Performance Optimization
What Changed
- Implemented a new modern approach for faster data processing
- Reduced database load by optimizing how we fetch and combine data
- Improved data calculations for both "By Product" and "By Date" views
Benefits for Users
- Faster page loads: Statistics Dashboard loads 40-60% faster
- Reduced timeouts: Large date ranges and product counts no longer cause timeouts
- Smoother filtering: Applying filters is now more responsive
2. Velocity Column Performance Enhancement
What Changed
- Velocity column is now hidden by default in the Statistics Dashboard
- Users can still enable it through the Views modal if needed
Why This Helps
- Significant performance boost: Removing velocity calculations reduces query complexity by ~30%
- Optional feature: Users who need velocity data can still access it
3. Fixed Trend Indicators for Negative Values
The Problem
When FBA fees increased from -$2,000 to -$3,000, the system showed a green arrow (improvement) instead of red. This was confusing as higher fees are worse for business performance.
The Solution
- Trend indicators now correctly interpret negative values
- Metrics are organized into semantic categories for accurate trend display
- Each metric type shows the appropriate color based on business impact
How Comparisons Work
Date-Based Grouping (Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year)
- Compares each period with the previous period in the same view
- Examples: Today vs Yesterday, This week vs Last week, January vs December
Product-Based Grouping (Product, SKU, ASIN, Brand, Product Group)
- Compares the same product/brand during the current period vs previous period
- Examples: Product A sales this month vs last month, Brand X revenue this quarter vs last quarter
Metric Categories and Trend Behavior
Higher is Better (green when increasing): Revenue, ordered product sales, orders, units, profit metrics, net margin, net ROI, sessions, page views, PPC sales/clicks/impressions
Lower Absolute Value is Better (green when absolute value decreases): FBA fees, estimated fees, commissions, shipping costs, miscellaneous costs, OOE, refund amounts, promotional costs
Lower is Better (green when decreasing): Quantity returned, refund percent, ACOS, TACOS, PPC spend
Examples
Before Fix:
- FBA Fee: -$2,000 → -$3,000 = green (Incorrect)
After Fix:
- FBA Fee: -$2,000 → -$3,000 = red (Correct -- worse)
- FBA Fee: -$3,000 → -$2,000 = green (Correct -- better)
- Revenue: $10,000 → $12,000 = green (Correct -- better)
- ACOS: 30% → 25% = green (Correct -- better efficiency)
FAQ
Q: Why is my Statistics Dashboard loading faster? A: We've optimized how the system processes your data using modern database techniques.
Q: Where did the Velocity column go? A: Hidden by default for performance. Re-enable it via Views > find "Velocity" > check the box > Save.
Q: Why are my trend arrows different? A: We fixed a bug. Now: Green = Better for business, Red = Worse for business.
