Why Do My Reports Sometimes Fail to Download?
Overview
When downloading reports from SellerLegend, you may occasionally see a FAILED status in the downloads screen. This is typically caused by large data volumes that exceed processing limits or timeout thresholds.
Why Reports Fail
Reports can fail when you attempt to download large datasets. Common scenarios include:
- Exporting a full year of order data in a single request
- Downloading reports with many columns and a wide date range
- Running reports during peak usage hours when server load is high
When the data volume is too large, the request may time out before the report can be fully generated, resulting in a FAILED status.
How to Resolve
Use Smaller Date Ranges
Instead of downloading an entire year at once, break the request into smaller chunks:
- Download data month by month or quarter by quarter
- Combine the smaller files after downloading
Apply Filters
Reduce the data size by applying filters before exporting:
- Filter by specific products, marketplaces, or order statuses
- Select only the columns you actually need
Try During Off-Peak Hours
Server load can affect processing capacity. Try generating large reports during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) when fewer users are making requests.
Check the Downloads Screen
Navigate to the downloads screen to check the status of your report. If it shows FAILED, adjust your parameters and try again with a smaller scope.
Key Points
- Report failures are caused by data volume exceeding processing limits, not by errors in your data
- Breaking large requests into smaller date ranges is the most reliable solution
- Applying filters to reduce the number of rows and columns helps prevent timeouts
