How Do I Define An Internal Name For A Product ?

What Is An Internal Name?

  • An arbitrary name you assign to a product so that you can easily remember which product is shown on a screen.
  • It is an alternative to needing to remember ASIN numbers or SKU numbers.
  • Handy when your SKU does not carry any standardized naming convention across all your product
  • Internal names are not mandatory. If your SKU easily and uniquely identifies your product, you may not need to use Internal Names.
  • Internal Names are totally free format and can be any length, however, it is advisable to use relatively short names.
  • You can assign internal names to just a subset of your products.
  • Once assigned to a product, the internal name is visible on all screens which feature the product
  • You can change the Internal Name at will. Any change will be instantaneously applied to all instances of the product in all the SellerLegend screens

There Are Two Ways To Assign An Internal Name To A Product

  • On the Products screen
    • Arguably the fastest and easiest way to enter an Internal Name
    • Go to Products –> Products List
    • Locate the row of the product you want to assign the Internal Name to. You can use the Omni-Search in the top left of the Task Bar to search for the product’s ASIN, for example.
    • On the row of the chosen product, click under the column Internal Name. The cell will then be highlighted and an input text box will appear
    • Enter the Internal Name of your choice in the input text box.
    • Click away from the cell (for example, click on an empty area of the Task Bar or the screen’s caption bar)
    • The Internal Name will then be propagated to all instances of the product in all SellerLegend screens.
  • On the Orders screen
    • Not recommended, as it is much slower than the assignment through the product screen, but feel free to use this option if you happen to be on the orders screen and feel the need to assign an internal name without going to the Products screen first.
    • Go to Sales –> Orders
    • Locate the row of any order containing the product you want to assign the Internal Name to. You can use the Omni-Search in the top left of the Task Bar to search for the product’s ASIN, for example.
    • On the row of the chosen Order, click under the column Internal Name.
